Cats can have house-soiling accidents, which are often due to a medical problem or fear, anxiety, and stress.
The longer the urine stays in the environment, the harder it is to remove the odour - treating the accident right away is critical and removing the urine thoroughly and completely helps minimise the odours from lingering in your home. Also, be sure to thoroughly clean litter boxes at least once a day.
The following products that you may already have at home help eliminate the urine smell:
1. Dishwashing detergent
Using an eco-friendly/non-toxic brand is recommended. Mix a quarter teaspoon of dishwashing detergent with one cup lukewarm water.
2. White vinegar
Vinegar can offset and neutralise the bacteria in the urine. Mix white vinegar in water to dilute it (try 1 and a half cups of warm water and ½ cup of vinegar).
3. Baking soda
Baking soda is magical for soaking up odours. Start by sprinkling it on the urine area and leave it there as long as you can, as it takes at least a few hours to let the powder become effective in removing the smell.
4. Enzyme-based cleaner
The enzymes actually break down the acid in the urine, helping get rid of the smell at the same time. The natural enzymes and helpful bacteria help kill the bad bacteria that is causing unpleasant odours.
